When we started writing By My Side we realized that we wanted to encompass the melodic vocal hooks of influences like that of Thee Sacred Souls and St. Paul & the Broken Bones along with the transformative, booming riffs, percussion and horn lines that we've always grooved to in Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings' music. We wanted to experiment & ride the line of melancholic lyricism with a sonically upbeat and peppy journey, detailing intimate heartbreak and the longingness to somehow keep a disheartened relationship floating and help keep our narrators special someone "by my side". Crafted with the help of renowned Toronto producer, Nixon Boyd (Hollerado, Royal Mountain Records), we're extremely proud of this record and hope it connects with people who are experiencing convoluted relationships, but always willing to try to find the light within them.
